Reef Advantage Calcium ™ is an optimized, non-caustic (pH 8.3-8.6) ionic calcium blend designed to restore and maintain calcium levels in natural seawater. Calcium and carbonates are essential for the growth of all corals. If any of these become insufficient, coral growth will cease, leading to a rapid deterioration in coral health.
Reef Advantage Calcium ™ also includes magnesium and strontium in amounts proportional to typical utilization ratios (100: 5: 0.1, Ca: Mg: Sr). This allows you to maintain these two important elements while conserving calcium. Unlike lime water (kalkwasser), Reef Advantage Calcium ™ does not have a caustic pH and does not deplete magnesium. When used correctly, it does not reduce alkalinity.
Usage
Newbie
Use 5 g (1 flat teaspoon) per 150 L (40 US gal) twice a week. Use the digital Seachem Spoon Scale for accurate dosing. Dissolve at least 250 ml (1 cup) fresh water. Check your calcium every 2 weeks and adjust the amount or frequency accordingly.
Advanced
Check the calcium level (use Reef Status ™ Calcium to check the magnesium level), then follow the addition regimen above until the calcium is brought to 380-420 mg / L. Every 5 g / 150 L increases the calcium content by about 12 mg / L. The amount or frequency can be adjusted, but do not exceed 10 g / 150 L per day. Thereafter, use as needed to maintain calcium levels.
Expert
After determining the calcium intake rate, set up the continuous drip system. Use the following formula (or skip the math and use our dosage calculator) to determine how much to add to the top-up water: m = vc / 400 (m = grams to add to top-up water, v = tank volume in liters, c = amount to increase the calcium content in mg / l). [For reference: 1 gallon = 3.8 liters, 5 g = 1 teaspoon].
DO NOT OVERDOSE: Excess calcium may increase the loss of carbonate alkalinity. Do not mix directly with carbonate additives. It is best if calcium and carbonate supplements are added every other day or at least 30 minutes apart.
