Tropical Forest Floor Exo Terra is a multi-layered substrate that allows you to recreate the forest cover, as in natural tropical forests. Forest litter is one of the most distinctive features of the rainforest ecosystem. It usually consists of two main layers;
The upper layer consists mainly of mosses and lichens.
The main layer consists of rich organic matter-usually decomposed leaves and wood.
The top layer consists of sun-dried natural green moss from a sustainable source. With this decorative top layer, you can really create a soft floor covering that can be found in natural rainforests. The sun-dried green moss provides the animals with a soft layer to burrow into their secret hideout. Most reptiles and amphibians feed on the forest floor in search of food and water. The top layer covers the substrate itself under it to facilitate moisture retention and prevent the soil from drying out. Biodegradable moss is absolutely free of chemicals and can be safely composted in your garden.
The base layer consists of a rich organic substance made of stable fibers of crushed coconut husk. It is a 100% natural, ecological and biodegradable substrate with high hygroscopic properties. This base layer is an ideal substrate for creating natural green terrariums for moisture-loving reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Its water retention, natural rooting hormones and antifungal properties promote the growth of plants in your terrarium. The unique coconut fiber core used for the Exo Terra rainforest litter consists of a mixture of short fibers and coconut peat grains, from large granules to small lumps, which improves soil drainage and improves aeration of plant roots.
The top layer of sun-dried natural green moss keeps the base layer slightly moist, facilitating maintenance, functioning as a natural ecosystem where beneficial organisms destroy waste and thus reduce odors.
Tropical Forest Floor Exo Terra is heat treated to reduce bacterial contamination.
Instructions for use:
Spread 5-10 cm of the main layer on the floor of the terrarium. Water or spray the base, depending on the desired humidity level. Place the decorative items in the terrarium, and then cover the floor with a top layer of decorative natural green moss. Use the Exo Terra hygrometer to monitor the humidity level. To increase the humidity in well-ventilated terrariums or terrariums with very high humidity requirements, place a soil heater under the terrarium. Clean the substrate on a daily basis and, if necessary, completely replace it with a new one.
